What a huge day
Dear God, it’s only 9:45 and so much has already happened this morning.
First of all, let’s talk about Shooby Taylor, The Human Horn (poopy-poppy-dop-shraw).
I have long been fascinated with Shooby’s particular brand of music. I play his recordings on my show from time to time, and I have many of his songs uploaded right here in the Multimedia section. Go there now if you’re not sure what I’m referring to, and educate yourself.
Shooby has been something of a mystery for a long while now. No one really knew where he was, or if he was even alive. But he has finally surfaced in a nursing home in Jersey.
Irwin Chusid, the brilliant man behind Songs in the Key of Z and The Incorrect Music Show, has been in contact with Shooby, and even went down to the nursing home with a cake to celebrate his 73rd birthday. The pictures are posted at Shooby.com, an invaluable resource for the Shoobyphile.
I’ve added a file for you from Shooby.com today; a rare mp3 of Shooby at work in the studio, doing what he does.
Happy shroppy doppy day, Shooby.
Now the Big News
a few days ago I got an email from Mr. KABC, alerting me to the fact that a certain television star had recorded a new album.
Now, you know me. And you know that among my very favorite things in the world are albums recorded by television stars. There just is nothing as good, as far as I’m concerned.
And so it was with great haste that I asked Schaef to get us a copy of the CD, particularly for the track that the artist recorded with his 9 year old daughter. I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that.
Then, almost as an afterthought, I asked Schaef if there was any way in hell the gentleman might want to come on the show to promote the CD. I mean, I already knew the answer would be a resounding, “No”. Or at least, should be.
So it was a huge surprise when Schaef (whom I have begun calling “Schaef Money”, at his insistence) called this morning to say that the artist will, in fact, appear on my show. I am stunned and amazed.
So, if all gives well, and his management doesn’t hear the show beforehand, it looks like we may be rapping with him next week.
I know. It’s amazing.
To make it all that much better, my crazy sister Amber is completely mad for him, so I’m going to have her call in and ask him whatever she needs to ask. She has already hinted that she might ask him to tap dance for us, which I’m sure will make for some staggering radio.
