A woman cut off her lover's penis yesterday following a quarrel. Lin Hsiu-chan, 52, severed the penis of her boyfriend Chiang Chin-sheng, 42, after he fell asleep at their rented apartment in Tucheng, outside Taipei.

Police rushed Chiang to hospital. Doctors reattached his penis, but said they did not know if Chiang would retain full use of it.

Chiang told police he and Lin had lived together for many years and often quarrelled. Last Wednesday, a Filipino woman cut off the penis of her Filipino-Chinese husband while he was sleeping and flushed it down the toilet.

A doctor in central Vietnam had half his penis cut off by a jealous girlfriend, state media and officials said on Friday.

Dr. Luong Quang Duc had been living with a barmaid for the past year in the central Vietnamese town of Dalat after leaving his wife, the Tien Phong newspaper reported.

When the doctor's girlfriend discovered that he was having a relationship with another woman, she cooked him a meal and got him drunk last Thursday, the paper said.

When the man had passed out, she cut off his penis with a knife and fled.

Duc was rushed to the hospital.

"There is a little change with his penis," said Ha Frai, who works in the same department as Duc. "It was shortened by half. I don't know if it will work normally."

A 20-year-old man cut off his penis in a northern Philippine city on the belief that it is the root of sin, a police report said on Wednesday.

The man, whose identity was withheld to protect the name of his family, was rushed on Monday to a hospital in the northen city of Laoag, 405km north of Manila, shortly after cutting off his penis with a shaving blade.

Doctors failed to reattach the man's penis because it was severely mutilated but the man was reported to be out of danger.

The man insisted that he is not crazy nor was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he severed his organ. He added he did not regret his action.
