Dead Air
Today I have something special for you. And when I say "special", I mean not terribly interesting.
A few months ago, I was approached by a program diector of a radio station in Los Angeles. I don't want to name names, but it was David G. Hall at KNX.
Anyway, this anonymous program director offered me about two minutes of air time Monday through Friday. We would call it "Two Minutes of Sunshine with April Winchell".
I could talk about anything I wanted, except politics. That suited me fine, because I have no idea what's going on in the world, and frankly, I don't care.
Creative freedom, a soapbox, a chance to be funny everyday with the gloves off. Yes, it all seemed too good to be true.
And of course, it was.
He completely blew me off after I submitted the first week's scripts. He never called me back, and he never paid me. His secretary called once to say he was "still interested but very busy". I believe that was sometime around the Carter inauguration.
In any case, I thought some of the pieces were damned funny. So I'm posting a few for you today. And if you like them, well, you know what to do.
