Many years ago, I came across “Barbra by Halstead” on public access. Basically, it was a very funny man named Gregory Halstead, who got into Streisand drag and did amazing things.
I remember a few shows in particular. Once, he prank called Virgin Records to demand that they put the new Streisand album in a better location in the store. Another show had him pranking a pet store and barking into the phone for a half hour.
Several years later, I did a pilot for E! with Taylor Negron. The script called for an obviously male Barbra impersonator, and as luck would have it, they cast Halstead. He was not only funny, he was extremely decent, and a pleasure to work with.
Today, the lovely and talented Tal Parsons sent me a link to a Halstead video on YouTube, and I present it here for your viewing pleasure.
In this particularly demented clip, Barbra works on her never-to-be-released Children’s Album.
