I used to work in an advertising agency as a copywriter. I learned a lot of really important things there, like finishing your work, targeting your communication and developing an economy of words.
I also learned that Gavin MacLeod has a lot of Christian jewelry he will not take off for photo shoots, and that Bebe Neuwirth is a world-class bitch.
But I learned something else, something even more upsetting. I learned that worst part of selling anything is that you actually have to do the work. Man, that sucks.
It's so much easier when no one likes your shit . You can talk about how no one gets you, you're too hip for the room, and what the fuck, you should be writing a novel anyway. I mean that's living, right there. You never have to produce anything, so no one can scrutinize you. You can just whine about how good you'd be if someone would only let you.
So here I am, in the finals of that writing contest I entered two weeks ago. And now, I have to do the work. Holy shit.
2,000 more words, due August 2nd.
I may not be able to do much in the way of updating over the next few days. I have plenty to think about, and it may take up a lot of my time. So bear with me, and I promise to let you know how things are progressing as best I can.
In the meantime, here's a little something I found over on Fishbowl the other day:
On the Radio Tomorrow
I just spoke to Mr. KABC, who informs me that there will be another round of What's My Line played tomorrow night.
He's very proud of himself for booking "a REALLY GOOD guest" (emphasis his), but keep in mind he was also excited when Mike Diamond, The Smell-Good Plumber dropped by.
Mr. K and I will be talking about this contest, bad sportsmanship, annoying people who talk loudly about their jobs and why I thought I was having a heart attack last Tuesday night. I don't want to say too much about that, but let's just say pork was a factor.
Tune to AM 790 at 10:00 PM, or listen to live streaming here.
