News and “Things”

August 26th, 2006 · No Comments

I'm going to be gone for about two weeks. I may be gone for three, but I don't know just yet.

I may not have much in the way of internet access right away, but that may be resolved after a week or so, when I will have access to a lap top. On the other hand, I may just rough it and live like the pioneers did, with nothing but pay-per-view and USA Today. And also room service.

I do want to leave you with a few pieces of news though.

First, I did indeed get a part in a television pilot. It's shooting the end of September and I'm very happy to be included. It's a comedy, and it's being produced by the same people who brought you "24". So good people, a good project, a funny script, and a shot at something that would be a dream come true. So I've got that going for me.

Secondly, I am scheduled to have a piece published on Fresh Yarn next month. Fresh Yarn is a web site owned and operated by Hillary Carlip, one of the authors in the Memoirist Collective. Every month, the site showcases new writers and six good stories, and I am really honored to be included in the September edition.

I'll be represented by an essay about a fight my mother got into with Lucille Ball when my dad was guest starring on The Lucy Show. It's just a really artful display of bitchery, and one of my fondest childhood memories.

There are a few other things in the wind as far as publishing and memoirs go, but they're not at a place where I can talk about them with any certainty. So I'll wait, and hopefully I'll have more good news in another month or so.

I'm off to work on a project for a few weeks, and to sew lots of "Things". I hope to come home with enough toys to stock my online store at etsy.com and get this turkey in the oven.

In the meanwhile, I'll leave you with two toys I did last night. These are very different, because they are meant to be a set, and also because they represent two famous people.

I'll let you decide how close I got.

You can't tell in the scan, but the Heidi doll is pregnant. And barefoot.
