Michael J, Fox recently filmed an ad suporting a stem cell research initiative on the ballot in Missouri.

The ad is making a lot of news now, as Rush Limbaugh has been claiming that Fox is faking the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease so he can be a tool for the left.

Today, the brain trust behind the opposition to this initiative posted a “response ad” with Patricia Heaton, who is known largely for being Ray Romano’s pretend wife and hating gay people.

In it, Ms. Heaton insults “low income women” by insisting that the money they would make selling their eggs would “seduce” them, suggesting that Missouri’s poor are unable to retain their values when money is introduced. The video goes on to dismiss the value of this research as a cure could take “15 years”. Apparently all diseases must be cured within the next few minutes, or the effort is wasteful. I suppose we better give up on cancer now. And someone tell Jerry Lewis to stay home on Labor Day.

If you visit YouTube, you know that there is an opportunity for viewers to comment on videos. These threads cam sometimes get long, and create a forum for discussion. Sometimes it’s interesting, sometimes it’s depressing. The people who posted the Patricia Heaton masterpiece this morning elected to approve each and every comment posted before it would show up.

Initially I assumed that this was to keep the vitriol down. It is an emotional topic, after all. But then I got a good look at some of the comments they were allowing:

I think that’s the compassionate conservativism I’ve heard so much about.

So, since they didn’t want me to post my dissenting opinion there, I’ll post it here.
