I love this dog.

November 4th, 2006 · No Comments

Sometimes I look at this little dog, and I wonder how it is that she spent the first 5 months of her life in a cage. I wonder how it was possible that no one wanted her.

And then she eats John's cell phone, and I know.

New Media

I have a lot of new media for you this morning!

First, I have two of the three hours from the Halloween show with Mr. KABC. I have the middle hour floating around here somewhere, but I lost the link. I'll try to straighten that out today. In the meantime, enjoy the two-thirds currently stinking up the October archives.

Next, I have the interview I did last night on CHRQ in Canada. It's around 8 minutes, and it's all about the eBay auctions that have caused such a media storm this week. Well, a media drizzle, really, Kind of a light mist. Just enough to make my hair curl.

Where was I?

Oh yes, the interview. You can find it in the November archives.

And finally . . . new MP3s!

It's been a while since I added new sound files to the site, but I found a few this week that I think are special enough to be included.

First up, two new additions to the Seasonal Favorites category in the Multimedia section. You may be aware that I made these MP3s available again this week, as the holidays are officially upon us. Really, the signs are all around you.

I've uploaded two tracks from an old Christmas album sent me called Christmas Sing Song with Woody Woodchuck, but you'll just call it Dear Sweet Baby Jesus Please Make it Stop. I guess they were trying to capitalize on the Alvin and The Chppmunks craze, but this is just so wrong.

Obviously, the songs have to be recorded at a much slower tempo so they'll sound right when sped up, and this is where they made their second mistake (the first being the acual greenlighting of this record). The sogs were recorded much too slow, so the finished product sounds like a funeral dirge. And while I can see the limited appeal of rodents singing nonsecular tunes about snow and sleigh rides, something very bad happens when they veer into more traditional territory, like Good King Wenceslaus. It's just, well, not right.

Speaking of not right, here's a clip I found on YouTube of Svatrze Piet (Black Peter), one of Holland's beloved Christmas icons. We first saw this in Amsterdam last year, and were a bit struck by how completely normal this seemed to the citizens of Holland. But then, they're all high.

Also in the Multimedia section today, a song by Barbra Streisand called Shut The Fuck Up. Seriously.

Do you remember a few weeks ago there was a heckler at one of Barbra's shows? Apparently she trotted out some shitty George Bush impersonator during the middle of her concert and lanched into some political comedy, easily her best idea since Yentl.

It seems there was a Republican gentleman in the audience who had also shelled out his hard earned cash to see the aging diva croak out homo anthems in a Donna Karan tarp. Needless to say, he was not amused by her Mark Russell style comedy, and he told her so as he exited.

Barbra responded by screaming, "SHUT THE FUCK UP" at him, proving her sophisticated understanding of her audience didn't stop at The Mirror Has Two Faces.

Don't get me wrong, my politics are probably closer to Babs than Bush. But holy hell, you don't charge out the ass for a concert and then ambush your audience with hackneyed partisan "comedy". That's just rude.

In any case, an artist named Revo Lucian got his hands on the tape and remixed her outbursts into a fantastic piece of music. Look for it in the Personal Favorites category in Multimedia.

Oh,this isn't it. I have more stuff to upload before I go on my vacation next Thursday. Don't you worry about that. I have an entire album of public service announcements from the 50's on how to buy meat! Excited?

I just don't want to blow my whole blogwad here. I have to keep a little something for later, so you have something to do while I'm gone.
