  Hey April, not to quibble, but not every ballplayer who points upward after hitting a home run is thanking Jesus. Barry Bonds, for example, is thanking his deceased father, Bobby Bonds, himself a terrific bigleaguer.

  What I’d like to know is how all this pointing upward started. I don’t remember seeing it back when I attended Dodgers games in the 1970s and ’80s. Is it a rap/hip-hop influence? I think it must have appeared in some other sport first, probably football. Seems like something some hotdog wide receiver would come up with.

  Oh, and if someone buys the rights to the letter Q, will they force Quincy reruns off the air?

  Instead of having people buy a diet fork to lose weight, fast food restaurants should be forced to serve their meals in plastic containers, completely sealed except for a tiny hole…
