By now you all know my fascination with foreign language covers of popular music. This has been going on for several years, and I really can’t explain it.
It started with German covers of pop songs, which I’ve been hoarding for quite a while. If you’ve never familiarized yourself with my stockpile, head over to the MP3 section and knock yourselves out. After all, Oktoberest is just around die Ecke!
More recently, I started getting interested in foreign language versions of Broadway showtunes. I don’t have a huge collection of these yet, but when you have Hair in Japanese and Rocky Horror in Icelandic, you have a fine start.
When John and I were in Munich back in January, we went to Saturn, which is sort of the German equivalent of Best Buy. I found some pretty spectacular scheiss there, and loaded up on Brat-Way hits. But German is sort of an easy language to find now, so it’s not as exciting as finding something in, say Dutch.
Fortunately for all of us, longtime ex-listener Mark sent me a little something from the Dutch production of “Annie”.
He says it’s just called “Annie” over there, but I’ve been to the Netherlands and no one has a name with only three vowels, so I re-did the artwork for the show.
I also have to imagine that everyone is wearing wooden shoes in this production, and Miss Hannigan smokes pot the whole time. I also like to think that Annie and Sandy are involved in some kind of porn that is completely legal in Amsterdam, but would get you arrested at the airport.

Wasn’t Annie 11 or something?
I don’t think that kind of porn is completely legal anywhere. Not even in Amsterdam.
Also, the MP3 loses points for not having the “Bet your bottom guilder” line that I was so looking forward to.

April, Jack and Coke isn’t bad, but have you ever tried a nice single malt Scotch? Ah, now THAT is the stuff!

Thank you. I just found the suicide song that I’ll play while filling the bath and opening a fresh razor

I think it’s legal to possess kiddie porn in the Czech Republic. Or, at least it was. There was some international kiddie porn internet ring raid that I read about, and there was some outrage that the Czech residents didn’t get arrested. You just can’t MAKE it there. THAT is a crime.

Speaking of porn-laced music, how did this musical not become a classic:

Hey, I just ate a 7-Eleven sandwich today and one of the ingredients was Guar Cum
I’m keeping that label just in case

Let my people cum is an underrated musical to say the least. Was HUGE in the 70’s over here in Philadelphia. And THAT says allot. Yeah, right? The “Cum in my mouth” song is priceless!

Have you heard of “Silence: The Musical”?
It is a musical of “Silence Of The Lambs”.
Not kidding. With songs like “If I Could Smell Her Cunt” and “Put the Fucking Lotion in the Basket” it is bound to become a cult classic.
You can find the official website here: http://www.silencethemusicallive.com/
