If you watch TV at all, you’ve already sat through 15,000 promos for Jada Pinkett’s hard hitting new tragicomic medidrama, HawthoRNe.
But even if you haven’t, and even if you weren’t able to sit through the first five minutes like we did the other night, it doesn’t matter. Because you’ve seen this show a million times already, and it still isn’t any good.
There’s something about this show that just makes me tired and quiet. And it’s not even the nurse-who-breaks-all-the-rules-because-she-cares-so-much bullshit, although that alone makes me want to lie down and just give the fuck up.
No, the thing that really exhausts me is the logo treatment.
HawthoRNe, get it?
Because she’s a Registered Nurse!
See how that works?
Oh, I tell you I had no idea she was a nurse until they spelled it all for me in the logo. The shots of her in a lab coat didn’t tip me at all. I thought she worked at a photo lab.
Well, you know how Hollywood works. An idea this good is bound to be repeated over and over again.
Let’s not fight it. Let’s just jump in and help TNT round out their Fall Season.

TNT did cancel ‘trust me’ after one miserable season, so the yaren’t all nutty.
Then again they think giving zack from ’saved by the bell’ a haircut on ‘raising the bar’ is great character development.
And am I the only one who thinks that Holly hunter is considered a great actress just for appearing naked in ‘the piano’ when no one really wants to see her naked at all?
My current guilty pleasure is still ‘bones’ ( it is realkly godawful and I can’t get enough of it)and now that TNT gives us two re-runs each weeknight I’m seeing the ‘hawthorne’ ad about 47 times a day.

I saw this first for the cop drama SouthLAnd (because it’s in Los Angles) but didn’t see it as a meme until the promos for HawthoRNe.

the ads screan ’see jada pinkett smith like you’ve never seen her before.
That isn’t all that difficult since the only thing I think I’ve seen her is getting cut to ribbons in a movie theater at the beginning of ’scream 2′. Even when I think about that scene I get it mixed up with its satire in the first ’scary movie’(regina king?)

Nurse Jackie probably doesn’t count because it’s on Showtime and so you get to see Edie getting schtupped by the pharmacy tech to get Oxycontin.

Got my Bag O’ Crap. Before it came I worried that the vintage porn might be on VHS (I know we have a player SOMEWHERE) or even 8mm. Who knew it would be in comic book form.

Yeh you’re right about Nurse Jackie. It isn’t worth the subscription for Showtime, that’s for sure. I really really disliked the first episode. Just yuck.

I’d bet a small amount of cash that this is Will Smith cashing in a chip to get Jada a series to get her out of his hair, rather than a real show with expectations of success. Somebody owed Will a favor and was willing to dump a couple of million bucks into a worthless vanity show to get square.
