April, you lucky girl. You didn’t witness some Gone With the Wind celebration gone awry, it was a Quinceanera, aka, a virgin march. In Latin American culture, it’s a coming of age ceremony held on a girl’s fifteenth birthday. That means, if you make it to 15 without losing your virginity you get a big party. I shit thee not.

Wow, is this funny!

It also brings back some very recent, and very horrible, memories from our recent refinance (where I had to have a Power of Attorney for my wife) and purchase of a house in another state (where she had to have a POA for me).

If either one of us ever has to use the words “Attorney in Fact:” on a document again, we will likely freak out.

The awful, horrible, timewasting and south draining process of providing stacks of stupid documents, over and over and over and over again only to find out they need more documents just about killed us.

Then we found out that so much time has gone by (usually because the lender or escrow weenies neglected to tell us about addtional requirements) that they need addtional payroll and tax documents.

I almost terminated the whole process twice and about told the lenders to stuff it up their 4th point of contact! We actaully had to change lenders at one point because the one we were dealing with came back with really stupid terms and dropped another because they couldn’t give us answer in under 30 days. At least THEY were honest about it!

April, you are looking in the wrong neighborhoods, but do really great podcasts. I hope it was a big a catharsis for you as it was for me.

The shows you did were always funnier when you had a bee in your bonnet!

When we bought our house, I took out a signature loan from my credit union for $30,000. to add to my down-payment.

Petty reasonable payment…

Or move to Detroit suburbs- a 6 bed, 7 bath 3 car garage on 1.5 acres for $19,000.00!

I am actually tempted!

Maybe if we all take a moment and each of us visualize the perfect house for April. Her and John looking happy as they sign the papers and get keys.

Go the extra mile and make it a double-wide. It’s hard to put marble on the floor of a mobile home.

Now you know why homeless people don’t seem stressed.

I attribute my 2005 nervous breakdown to the concurrent 2004 selling of one house and the buying of another. We still haven’t unraveled the mess that is our mortgage. I will NEVER move.
Useless Real Estate agents never bothered to check to make sure the garage/apt. was permitted (it’s 2500 sq. feet and a little hard to miss). It’s not.
But we paid $235,000 for it and it’s probably worth $150,000 now!
I have no idea what caused the 2006, 2007 and 2009 breakdowns.
