  I saw some video of that meeting and Frank looked angry and combative the whole time – even before people started shouting (and they did that a lot – not very nice).

  Frank never did answer one guy’s question (nicely asked too) as to whether he and colleagues would opt into the plan they are trying to put the rest of us into. Not a very effective discussion technique.

  The problem is that these guys don’t really look like they want to have a dialogue with anyone. They want us to accept what they have “crafted” for us, never mind the details, or how much it will cost, and are p*ssed that we won’t go quietly. Not too bright.

  The heck with President Obama’s birth certificate, I want to see Nancy Pelosi’s and Harry Reid’s High School Diplomas!

  The idiots disrupting these town halls are incredibly rude attention whores. I can’t believe it took this long for someone to put them in their place.

  You show up with a picture of the president defaced to look like Hitler because you’re too stupid to argue intelligently and this is all the discourse you deserve.

  how bad does it fucking have to get before some republican steps up and says ‘we are not the party of wing nuts’. It has been going on a while . ask about ‘evolution’ at their last fucking debates and all candidates better say ‘no’.
  The democrats have their share of wing nuts as well, but they never really cow towed to them.

  On a happy note just discovered the daytime show ‘the doctors’. It is like looking through my grandma’s old ‘prevention’ magazines only all high tech. Right now, they are showing a prostate ultrasound.
  Yesterday they had a woman’s ‘outer’ surgically redone to become on innie. And a guy who had the pimples on his penis burned off with a laser beam. They demonstrated that with taking the laser beam to a cucumber!!!!!

  the word ‘Nazi’ used as an adjective to describe something negates the tone.
  Anyone who thinks this woman was ‘polite’ has some serious issues.
  Mentioning The fact that the nazi’s got their start by the kind of disruptive, fe4r mongering, leying self rightous behavior is also rude. However, keep in mind that the Germans who thought they were just wingnuts who would burn themselves out was wrong.

  @ Ira, 13 is not my age (I wish – long past that) and you have never met my mother at any time. I wouldn’t dream of making comments about your mother, so don’t make them about mine.

  Getting back to the point here, yes, I do think the guy was being fairly respectful and asked a reasonable question, which Rep Frank failed to answer.

  The rest of the exchange by Rep Frank and other people was decidedly not so and referring to anyone as Hitler or a Nazi is completely wrong (unless Hitler and Co really are making an appearance – yeech), just as Senators Pelosi and Reid should not be calling anyone “un-American” or “evil”.

  What – you mean it’s not “reasonable” to show up to a town-hall meeting with an AR-15, or to yell “Heil Hitler” over & over at an Israeli man? I guess that must mean you want the terrorists to win!

  These folks need to be scrutinized very closely & carefully, especially now that their collective predilection to be attention-whores appears to be backfiring. Given an opportunity, they’ll gladly turn into something much, much worse. They’re not out there to energize town-hall democracy – they’re out to kill it. Like nature, politics abhors a vacuum, & I leave it to your imagination what would fill that one.

  @pal Jacky: Why do you persist in misconstruing what I wrote? Because I disagree with you? Great tactic if you want to kill intelligent dialogue or “score” a snarky little (and I do mean little) point, but not very effective in addressing the point or being humorous.

  For the record, I don’t watch anyone’s network news broadcasts as their journalism standards are absurdly low – in too much of a rush to do anything with any story I think. And I think quite well for myself without any outside assistance thank you very much.

  I clearly said calling anyone Hitler or a Nazi is wrong and that behavior should rejected as it is ill mannered and inhibits civil discussion. I do reject it and my comment about Hitler or Nazis actually showing up was an attempt at humor to illustrate that point – perhaps it eluded you.

  Representative Frank and President Obama are clearly neither. People, of whatever political flavor, who do make that accusation in such a manner lack common decency and all sense of history.

  Similarly, calling anyone who disagrees with you un-American and evil is wrong and ought to be repudiated by all. Why has that this not happened? Why has the media largely ignored that story of the black man who was beaten up for allegedly voicing opposition to this plan at a townhall meeting in St. Louis ( http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/08/07/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5224581.shtml
  ) allegedly by supporters of the plan now proposed? You will have to search for this news via Google, Bing or ASK as most of the media has nothing on this and the CBS story has very few details. Why is that?

  Ask yourself these questions before you assure yourself that you have all the answers – I am certain sure I don’t.

  While you dwell on all of that, perhaps you would like to elucidate how President Obama, et al. plan to pay for all this healthcare they plan to provide to everyone. The last I heard (from none other than our President during his tour of New Hampshire, Colorado and Montana) is that Medicare is going broke and needs lost of help.

  That program only covers part of the population, so where will the money come from to pay for this vastly larger plan without bankrupting the nation and all of us? Please do not trot out the tired line about “soaking the rich”. There aren’t enough of them, anywhere, to pay for 10% of this – check with the IRS if you don’t believe me.

  And my screen name is clearly Gunner, not Gun Boy. I don’t make fun of your name, so don’t do that to mine – the thing here is to comment on humorous, bizarre and, dare I say it, stupefying items created/revealed/discovered by our hostess, not to score points in a debate.

  Gunner, I think you are refusing to listen to Mr. Obama’s carefully-reasoned explanations. There will be a very small tax increase on the top 5% of earners. This will pay for a tax cut for the remaining 95%, not to mention health care for everyone. Meanwhile, as citizens tighten their belts and learn to live within diminished means, the government “stimulates” the global economy by going on a binge. We borrow money we don’t have from China to buy cars we don’t need from Japan which we make room for by trashing perfectly good American cars. How could anybody argue with that?

  It’s a trifle odd, though, that the people dismissing protesters as swastika-bearing evil-mongers are the same ones that used to tell us, back before Jan. 20, that dissent was patriotic. Go figure.

  I’ve known some very caring, generous, thoughtful tables and I don’t think it’s fair that we allow one bad table to pollute all of the progress they’ve made. Are we ready to have Thanksgiving on the floor? I don’t think so.

  People don’t want to accept or admit that their opinions are based on emotional response and mostly primative emotion. All you have to do is relax and wait and think for a second at what the hell you really are afraid of and eventually it will be clear what you want and believe. It’s hard to do, but blind self-righteousness is what has gotten this country where it is today and it’s not only ‘their’ self-righteousness, but ‘ours’.

  That being said, these morons need to be kept out of these meetings. They are stealing our time and money with their stupidity and I’m sick of it.
